Kane Brown and Lauren Alaina were middle school classmates. Who knew? That means "What Ifs" is a reunion of sorts for the pair, who were in the same chorus class in seventh grade.
"He was very, very shy," Lauren recently told People about the experience. Lauren apparently loved the class and took it seriously, though that can't exactly be said of Kane. "It was just a class for me to not to do work," he joked.
One day Lauren heard him humming, however, and she had him stay after class to practice. "He was even better than I thought he would be," Lauren recalled. "When he started singing, I was like 'Stop singing! I want to be the best singer in class!'"
"It's really crazy that we went to middle school together and we're in Nashville now and get to live our dreams," Lauren continued. "And we have a song together and get to make a video together in paradise. It's pretty cool."
From chorus buddies to big-time country crooners, Lauren Alaina and Kane Brown 's friendship has evolved - and led to a new hit single. PEOPLE is exclusively debuting the duo's lyric video for their song " What Ifs." In the clip, Alaina, 22, and Brown, 23, cruise down tree-lined roads as the song's catchy lines flash across the screen.
The video for "What Ifs" is finally out, by the way, and "paradise" is right. It was filmed at The Inn at Newport Ranch in Fort Bragg, CA, a coastal town in Mendocino County in the northern part of the state. Check it out below.
