Darius Rucker's Backstage Whiskey Ritual Heads For The Mainstream

More than one backstage video of country stars slamming shots of whiskey before taking the stage has surfaced in recent years and at least one of 'em is spreading the ritual far and wide.

Darius Rucker has partnered with 843 in the creation of Backstage Southern Whiskey, an 84.3-proof craft blend set for distribution throughout Rucker's home state of South Carolina with later rollouts in Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Prior to every show, Darius, his tour buds, band mates and special guests gather backstage to raise a glass of whiskey as "good luck" ahead of the performance. "That toast is a vital part of our nightly routine," he says through his publicist. "It's really about celebrating the opportunity to make music together. And Backstage Southern Whiskey is now a part of that important ritual that we can share with fans."

But Darius won't be done at whiskey. Somewhere in Kentucky craft distillers are hard at work on Forbidden, his coming brand of bourbon. Here's to being a Homegrown Honey-style country fan, eh? Cheers!
